Code of Ethics

Every GRCP credential holder and candidate agrees to uphold this code. It applies to professional conduct in any role, not only to work that relies on the credential.

  1. Integrity

Act honestly and transparently. Do not misrepresent facts, findings or the state of a control, a risk or a compliance position, and do not allow others to do so through you.

  2. Objectivity

Form judgements on evidence. Disclose any conflict of interest that could affect, or appear to affect, your judgement, and step back where it cannot be managed.

  3. Confidentiality

Protect information obtained in your work. Use it only for the purpose for which it was given, unless disclosure is required by law or professional duty.

  4. Competence

Work only within the limits of your knowledge and experience, keep your skills current through continuing professional education, and seek help where needed.

  5. Public interest

Recognise that governance, risk and compliance protect people beyond your employer or client. Do not knowingly take part in activity that is unlawful or that misleads regulators, auditors or the public.

  6. Respect

Treat colleagues, candidates, clients and others fairly and without discrimination.

  7. Use of the credential

Describe your GRCP credential accurately, use it only while it is active and follow the rules for use of the GRCP name and marks.

  8. Exam security

Never disclose, collect or use exam content, and report any breach of exam security you become aware of.

Breaches of the code

Anyone can raise a concern about the conduct of a GRCP holder through our contact form. Concerns are investigated by people independent of the matter, and the holder is given the opportunity to respond. Outcomes range from no action to a warning, suspension or withdrawal of the credential. Decisions can be appealed.
