Exams
Every GRCP exam is written, delivered and marked by GRCP. Training partners prepare you; they never see the questions or decide the result.
Booking an exam
- Create a candidate account in the GRCP portal using the name shown on your photo identification.
- Choose your credential and delivery method: online with a remote proctor, or at a test centre.
- Confirm eligibility. Professional credentials (e-GRC, i-GRC) require GRCP Foundation and two years of relevant experience, confirmed by your employer. A degree or a relevant professional certification may count for up to one year.
- Pay or redeem a voucher. Vouchers bought through an accredited training partner or your employer are redeemed at checkout.
Fees are published when registration opens. You can reschedule or cancel up to the deadline shown in your booking confirmation.
Exam delivery
| Credential | Questions | Time | Pass mark |
|---|---|---|---|
| GRCP Foundation | 60 multiple choice | 60 minutes | 65% |
| GRCP e-GRC | 80 scenario-based | 150 minutes | 70% |
| GRCP i-GRC | 80 scenario-based | 150 minutes | 70% |
Exams are closed book. Scenario-based questions describe a realistic situation (a risk assessment, a control failure, an audit finding) and ask you to choose the best course of action. Questions are written by practitioners who do not deliver GRCP training, reviewed by a second subject expert and mapped to a published exam domain.
Online proctored
You sit the exam on your own computer with a live remote proctor. You need a webcam, microphone, a stable internet connection and a private room with a clear desk. A system check is available before exam day.
Test centre
Test-centre sessions are supervised in person. Locations are shown when you book.
On the day
- Bring a valid, government-issued photo ID. The name must match your candidate account exactly.
- Notes, phones, smart watches and other devices are not permitted.
- You must accept the GRCP candidate agreement, which includes keeping exam content confidential.
- Any breach of exam rules can lead to a void result and a ban on future exams.
Reasonable adjustments
If you have a disability, medical condition or other circumstance that affects how you sit an exam, you can request a reasonable adjustment, such as extra time or a separate room. Request it when you book and include supporting evidence; we treat this information confidentially and use it only to arrange your adjustment. Contact us if you are unsure what to ask for.
Results and retakes
Your result is released in your candidate account and by email once it has been confirmed. Successful candidates receive a digital certificate and badge and are added to the public registry.
If you do not pass, your result shows performance by domain to help you prepare. You can retake an exam after 14 days, up to three attempts in any 12-month period.
Appeals and complaints
You can appeal an exam result or certification decision in writing within 30 days of being notified. Appeals are reviewed by people who were not involved in the original decision, and we aim to respond within 30 days. Complaints about an exam, a training partner or GRCP itself can be raised through our contact form.
Maintaining your credential
Professional credentials are valid for three years and renewed by continuing professional education (CPE):
- At least 60 CPE hours in each three-year cycle, with a minimum of 15 hours in any year.
- An annual certification fee.
- Continued commitment to the GRCP Code of Ethics.
CPE is logged in your candidate account. Each year a random sample of CPE records is audited, so keep evidence of the activities you claim. GRCP Foundation does not expire and has no CPE requirement.
